We are officially Triathletes!

We did it!- And, neither one of us came in last! We got up bright and early and headed to Emmett. The weather was not good. I think it was around 58 degrees and raining pretty hard. When we got in the water it felt cold at first but not too bad. The boys went first. Then the girls started the swim 5 minutes later. I am really bad at the swim but I completed it and I am so proud of myself. It was hard. People were kicking me, and hitting my head. At one point I thought of how when people start to drown they like to pull people under and as soon as I got that thought out of my head someone pushed my head under! I didn't like that too much. During Cory's swim there was this big buoy that you turn at and it caused a bottle neck. He had to tread water for a couple minutes and wait his turn which was very annoying and frustrating. While we were swimming the sun came and it warmed up, making it the PERFECT weather. It ended up being in the 70's with a overcast. Cory swam his 500 meters in a time of 13:19. His transition from swim to bike took him only 2:27. Ashleigh finished her swim in a time of 16:12. Her transition took 4:27. I know I took a long time on my transition but whatcha gonna do? I don't know what took me so long. I took this energy gel stuff once I got to the bike. It was so nasty. I almost lost it right there. I did a couple of big gags and then drank some water. Who knows, maybe it took too much time but atleaste I didn't put chap stick on and do my nails.

It was a 12 mile bike ride. Right when Ashleigh put her foot on the pedal her chain fell off! I couldn't believe it. My chain has never fallen off before. It's just my luck. It took me a couple minutes to get it back on because it fell of twice in a row. Then about 3 miles in After I had just climbed this big hill and I was heading down it, my chain fell off again!! I said to myself, "Are you kidding me?" Then right before I was going to start breaking so I could sop and put it back on, the heavens opened and the chain somehow got back on. So I rode on. Cory and I both felt like we were going so slow on this one street. I couldn't seem to go faster than 12 to 13 mph. When before I was going around 16-17 mph. It was very frustrating. After the race, we realized that everyone had the same problem and it was because we were riding into the wind.

I was really hoping to catch up to my sister in law during the bike, because although she beat me in the swim by 3 minutes, she has a heavy mountain bike. It didn't happen! She kicked my butt. She beat me on the bike by a couple minutes. I was a little disappointed in myself for not riding harder but I was just so happy because I knew I would be done soon and have the run left. I got off my bike and two of my brother in laws were already done with the race and cheering me on, along with Cory's mom and dad. Cory did the bike in 43:30 and the transition from bike to run we weren't sure of because for some reason it added it to his running time.
Ashleigh finished her bike at 55:31 and had a speedy transition of 1:08! On to the run.

We had to run 3 miles. Cory's run time was somewhere under 8 minutes per mile. We don't know exactly how long it took because his transition time was included in the 25:26 total run time. Cory passed a few dozens people during the run portion of the race. Which is good, since all he passed on the bike was a goose egg.

Ashleigh did a great job on her run. She ran the 3 plus miles in 34 minutes, which is just over a 10:56 minutes mile. That pretty fast for having just biked 12 miles. Cory was nice and met her a half mile before the finish line to cheer her on during the final stretch. Right when she started seeing the crowds of people and everyone cheering her on she did a sprint to the finish line. It was pretty fun. Ashleigh did a great job. Here she is coming into the finish line. - Oh and she did pass her sister in law during the run, so it was all good.

WE DID IT!!! We were so happy.

Here is the group of us. Cory's brothers and their wives. Dallen on the left got 4th place overall! I was very impressed.

Tough girls

Look at these buff athletes.

All and all we had a great time and it felt so good to accomplish something like this. Not to mention that Ashleigh lost 20 pounds and Cory lost 15 pounds from working out this summer. Here are some pictures from the website. Enjoy!
